PRESERVING MARRIAGE IS PRESERVING OUR CULTURE

By Reverend Bill Banuchi

It is imperative that we understand what hangs in the balance with the gay marriage debate, --it is nothing less than our American way of life.

The truth of the matter is that those who want to legitimize homosexual marriage are also the same people who want to remove every symbol of God and the Bible from public view, because acknowledgment of God is the first, the most basic expression of Americanism[1].  Their agenda is to change America to resemble more closely the Socialist Scandinavian hedonistic society, and then go beyond that into ultimate freedom from traditional sexual morality. They see this as a good thing, a “progressive” development in “social evolution.”

Those of us who cherish our traditional American way of life built on Judeo-Christian principles must be fully aware of the enemy at our door, an enemy intent on a revolution to change the very foundations of our society in order to build a new America where God is no longer the one in whom we place our trust. That place will be occupied by the gods of Secular Humanism -people. In this religion there is no God; man will save himself. This happens to be the religion of the former Soviet Union. In this religion –adopted by the western liberal movement- traditional Christianity and Judaism are tolerable only as long as they stay inside the four walls of their own church buildings and temples. They expect that, over time, these traditional religions will die off, and there will be a new one-world religion based on faith in humanity alone. One of their  “prophets,” John Lennon, articulated their creed in the song, “Imagine:”

Imagine there's no heaven, It's easy if you try,

No hell below us, Above us only sky.

Imagine all the people living for today...

Imagine there's no countries, It isn't hard to do.

Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion too.

Imagine all the people Living life in peace... …

Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can,

No need for greed or hunger, A brotherhood of man,

Imagine all the people, Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer, But I'm not the only one.

I hope someday you'll join us, And the world will be as one

The fantasy of a Socialist Utopia, be assured, is the engine driving the homosexual marriage movement. Invisible forces bent on dethroning God, in whom we have placed our trust since the first Pilgrims landed at Plymouth, are pulling the strings.

If people of faith do not stand up, it will be only a matter of time until we are ruled by gods of flesh -by tyrants. This isn’t wild speculation. All one has to do is to look at world history. The facts are plain. The decision is ours. Philosopher Edmund Burke admonished us, “All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

As one of my favorite non-biblical heroes, Don Quixote, tells us, it’s time to “march into hell for a heavenly cause”. Yes, it is an impossible dream, but I, for one, will never give up fighting for what’s right. Our forebears also believed in this impossible dream called America, and here we are, the only constitutional republic in all of world history to last over two hundred years. Why? Because we were intelligent enough to heed the warnings of Thomas Jefferson,

“God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.”

Could 9/11 have been the beginning of the awakening of His justice? Is there more to come? Will God lift His hedge of protection from America if we turn our backs on his eternal rules for order?

No, it’s not just about gay rights. It’s about the future of our nation, the future of our children. We owe it to them to do all we can without any assurance of favorable outcomes.

As my friend Don Q. said, “And I know if I’ll only be true to this glorious quest, then my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I’m laid to my rest…And the world will be better for this…” I guess I still believe in impossible dreams. We must continue to humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways. Then He will hear from Heaven, forgive our sin and heal our land. After all, with God all things are possible.
