HOW SHALL I VOTE?

Some people still believe there is no difference between politicians. "They're all the same." is what we hear. The truth is that politicians are not all the same. It does matter who you vote for this November. I believe it matters more than any other time in the history of our nation. The choice will not be between two politicians with two sets if promises neither intends to keep. The choice this November will be nothing less than a choice between Socialism and Freedom.

There are still many Americans who would trade their freedoms in order to have the government take care of them. It feels good to think of the government taking care of all your needs like health insurance, but as President George Bush said, “A government big enough to give everything you need is also big enough to take everything you have.” Furthermore, history teaches us that government bureaucracy cannot effectively administrate these types of programs. One need only look at the fallen Soviet Union to see where liberalism leads. However, to many, the Utopian dream is still worth dreaming, and so these people should vote for candidates who reflect liberal socialistic ideas.

Conservatism places the responsibility on the individual and the local community, requiring families, religious and civic communities to take on the responsibility of caring for the citizenry. When the provider is so close to the recipient, waste and fraud are less likely to bankrupt the system. This system works when people get involved and refuse to pawn off the responsibility of caring for their neighbors on government. Conservatism can be frightening, because wherever there is freedom to succeed there must also be freedom to fail. It’s up to those who succeed to help those who fail.

The table listed below illustrates some of the contrasting characteristics of liberalism and conservatism. Listen to the speeches and ideas of each candidate, and compare them with the characteristics listed in the chart, to learn, for yourself, whether they line up with the liberal or the conservative agenda. Then vote for the one whose statements best reflect your own views. These ideas are further developed in the book “How Shall I Vote?”

Some say American voters are fickle and vote with their emotions. I believe we just haven’t made the necessary information available. If we quit the political babbling and put the information out there, Americans will vote with their heads. If we don’t,  they will have nothing to go by but their feelings.Remember to "Give unto Ceasar what is Ceasars'" -your informed vote, and pray for America.
